my fringe during fringe

Regular posting to resume STAT. I bought the lash stash and will test the products one by one when I'm finished working the Boulder International Fringe Festival, and back at school, where I sweat somewhat less profusely than when wiring and rigging in an unconditioned space in August.

In the meantime, both Maybelline Lash Discovery waterproof and CoverGirl LashBlast waterproof are looking good and standing up.

Come see a show!!!

waterproof my ass

You know something Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express, if you run all over my face and smear off on tissues/the back of my hand when I cry, you are NOT waterproof.

I'm generally a big fan of Maybelline mascaras in general, and have found them to be about as 'waterproof' as one can ever really expect. I've yet to find a formula that doesn't flake or smear or bleed at least a little bit by the end of a day, or under stage lights, in rain, through tears, etc., but this was absolutely ridiculous.
This was not :dab up the excess under and around my eyes with a tissue, and have my makeup and I look alright, this was giant black smears under and above my eyes, and on my cheeks, as well as the back of my hands, and Mon Amore's shirt. Lame.

*Correction*
I was mistaken and this formula does not claim to be waterproof, which I find somewhat comforting. However; I fail to understand why on earth anyone would bother making mascara that is not waterproof, for the aforementioned reasons.

sweet dreams are made of these

I actually had a dream that I magically found the last Lash Stash at Sephora. Yes, really.

While this did not happen in reality, I did pick up the Fresh Magic Wands Mini Mascara Duo:

I just could not resist the pretty packaging or the price! $10 for this mini duo. The idea is that the black tube makes a super-defined black base, and the blue one makes feathery extensions. I will be trying them both alone and together.

My camera is currently M.I.A. in the move, along with my phone charger, so I am unable to provide pictures of products on my lashes at the moment.

Lash Stash?

I am incredibly annoyed with myself right now:
Last night I was perusing the Sephora website, in part planning on taking a friend there for the first time (something that I love doing so much) and in part debating buying the Sun Safety Kit online versus in-store, to try to deal with how incredibly bright it is here all the time, and that I keep finding myself forgetting to pack sunscreen in my purse/school bag, and having to buy it wherevere I am - many small bottles of sunscreen to stash in everything I carry.
If I buy online, I am invariably tempted to buy enough that I get free shipping, if I buy in-store, something I did not plan to purchase will suddenly become something with which I cannot live without.
I came across the 'Lash Stash' - a value kit of 10 'deluxe-sample' sized mascaras for $35.00 (an $85.00 value) which included several that are on my 'must try' list. I talked myself out of buying it, along with the Sun Safety Kit that second, and decided to wait until I go on Friday with my darling friend. Afterall, I'm moving! Our new bathroom is much smaller than our current one, which is disproportionately enormous for the size of the apartment, and Mon Amore and I are already trying to figure out where it is we are both going to keep our not totally reasonable volume of product, not to mention, not needing unecessarily to spend money on anything. Sunscreen I can always justify, even for me, more mascara occasionally becomes difficult.
So I went back to look this morning, with the idea of checking to see if it was actually available in-store, or if I should go on and order the damn thing, now that I have a new address, and
IT'S GONE.
It is 'not active' on the website. What the hell!? In less than 24, actually, less than 12 hours, it has just dissapeared from the site. I will be checking in-store on Friday. If it isn't available there either, I will doubtless continue to kick myself until such time as it re-appears.

Sephora, I love you, I'm a very good customer to you, I bring you new customers with relative frequency, why would you hurt me so?

I didn't even put on my face!

spinbrush

I bought the Spinlash the other day. I bought it for half-price at that.
I was excited. Oh baby, was I ever excited. Electric oscillating mascara wand!!!??? Oh baby, oh baby, oh BABY!

I haven't tried it yet, but I can already tell you that I'm disappointed. I was expecting to be able to change the battery on which it runs, because, um, wouldn't that make sense? NO. No, apparently, it would not. The Spinlash has to be disposed of when the battery runs out or after 90 days, whichever comes first. What the hell is that? That is too much waste, too often, and far too much money to keep replacing them. Four of those a year? The waste and expense are just unconscionable.

It doesn't mean that I'm not going to try it, it doesn't mean that I may not find myself loving the effects, but until it becomes more eco-friendly, I won't be buying another one.

Tarte Lash-Hugger addendum/ Tarte Rejuvelash

a) Mon Amore noticed my mascara yesterday and quite liked it.

b) I perked up Tarte Lash Hugger with Tarte Rejuvelash late afternoon. I was surprised how much it did. It really brought back out the definition of the mascara that I applied that morning. It's a clear 'lash refresher' and it really lived up to its name. I'd highly reccomend this one for late-day/night touch-ups.

c) I totally failed to mention that it's eco-friendly!

Tarte Lash-Hugger

Tarte Lash-Hugger:

(sorry the picture of my eyes isn't more clear)

I like this product. Its curved brush really helps to get into all of the little corners.

The black color is nice, although not as dark/ intense as some.
The texture was relatively smooth and not too crunchy or spiky.
It had great staying power through a hot sunny day, and my rubbing at my eyes, even though it isn't waterproof.
Its a nice, pretty, natural look. Not the extreme 'holy crap look at your eyelashes' kind of look that I am perpetually seeking, but nice nonetheless. I'll keep using it for a modest day-time kind of look.

the 'eyes' have it

- xposted from letsblogaboutsex

I was just thinking about mascara
,
which is something I do a number of times on any given day.
In fact, if the things about which I most frequently think are, in no particular order:
sex, mascara, religion, the recession/money in general, the environment, food, and politics. I have , personal involvement in all of these subjects, 1.8 degrees (yes, that's how I'm calculating the finished portion of my Master's degree.) arguable expertise in 4 of them, and make the most frequent use of mascara. Well, probably money if you think about it in terms of goods and services already paid for, or in the process of being paid for, but I don't *feel* as though I use money every single day, or even on as many days as those on which I wear mascara, which is between 4 and 7 days of any given week.
No matter what my life is like, I can pretty safely say, that I wear, have worn, and will wear mascara more than I am currently having, have had, or will have sex, or probably even masturbate. Okay, maybe the last part is not true,, but my lifetime of mascara is probably even to that of masturbation, and exceeds the amount of sex.
I've been wearing makeup since I was 12, I didn't start having sex for another five years after that. I have definitely owned more tubes of mascara than I have had sexual partners. Hell, after having thrown out any of the ones that are even kind of old, I currently own ten. Even if I only went through the hygienically recommended 2-4 tubes a year, which I do not, I would be at a minimum of 26-52 tubes. I have had fewer than 52 lovers. Then take into account the fact that I will almost unquestioningly purchase every 3rd or so new product that claims that it will give me inhumanly long, thick, and dark eyelashes. If I had sex with approximately the same proportion of people in the world as mascaras I buy out of those on the market... I can't even begin to do the math or think of the consequences.
Mascara is so often (though granted, not always) easier to come by than sex, and has left me with unpleasant feelings far less frequently. Disappointing new formula, eh, bad sex - boo. No mascara wand has ever made me feel used, no matter how much I've regretted its purchase, how miserably it failed to live up to my expectations, or how overpriced I may have thought it was.

So, back to what I was thinking,
I was thinking that I should have a blog dedicated entirely to mascara - product testing, and my excessive internal dialogue about it. Then I was thinking that I simply haven't got the money to toss away on the amount of makeup I would have to buy in order to post on anything like a regular basis with anything valuable to say. I would have to buy it, or at least own it in order to give it a proper test - take pictures, wear it for a couple of days during a number of different activities, etc., etc. I'm sure I would begin to try the patience of even the nice people at Sephora were I to walk in every morning to put on a product and leave without purchase that often.
I could of course START WITH WHAT I HAVE and what I have had/worn. I've got a more than solid base from which to start. I have far better chances of people sending me free mascara to try, review, and enjoy, than I do sex toys and products, like say Essin'Em does. I'm just not that cool, nor do I feel quite that authoritative. Believe me, I want to be. I want people send me free condoms, lubes, sex toys, porn, and furniture because I'm awesome and my opinion is respected, but I just haven't got the highest of hopes for that happening. Mascara on the other hand, mascara, I know. I wouldn't really need anyone else to help me test it, although I'm sure my friends, the odd stranger, and Mon Amore would weigh in on occasion. There's also very little to get in the way of my wearing/testing mascara. It takes remarkably little time to put on, and I can obviously be wearing, ergo: testing mascara while doing any number of other things - including having sex/masturbating, whereas the former activities tend to limit one's ability to do a whole lot else, at least, the way I've been doing them. I also might mention times like the present, at which I have a really horrible sinus infection and barely feel capible of doing anything, and most definitely cannot be having sex - I'm really kind of astounded I'm thinking corherantly enough for long enough to write this, but you bet your ass I was wearing mascara this morning. Hell, I even bought some fiberwig while waiting for my antibiotics to be ready.

So, the moral of the story I suppose, is would you read it if I blogged about mascara? Do you have suggestions as to what I should write about? Would you like to send me products to try? Shameless, I know.

- I am happy to say, that I have never contracted a disease from a sex or mascara.

*knock wood*
